Ian Roberts, Chief Executive Officer, On-Communications said:
“We continue to make significant progress towards our plan. The acquisition of IP-NET is another important milestone in our plan to consolidate the industry. While there has been a great deal of noise about FWA, we have actually been doing it, rolling out solid networks, building partnerships and winning customers. We are now the clear market leader in deployed FWA network coverage for businesses in the UK. We have our own network operational in four major conurbations, with further deployments imminent. It is a great platform from which to build.”

It has the proven skills and resources to allow us to quickly build and support a carrier class network. As a significant added bonus Networks by Wireless will also continue as a key sales partner for the Public Sector and Government with whom they have very strong existing client relationships.”
Neil Metcalfe, Managing Director, Networks by Wireless added:
”We believe that On-Communications has the right model and partners to build a world class Fixed Wireless Access network in the UK. As an organisation we are focused on delivering and supporting large fixed wireless network engineering projects, and we are looking forward to fulfilling our part in this challenging roll out. It is also a very good fit with our core market segments in Government and the Public Sector from whom we have seen significantly increased demand for wireless services of all kinds, this is borne out by the fact that NbW have recently been awarded the OGC framework under Catalist Telecom, for the provision of Wireless Data Infrastructure for any publicly funded organisation. - [October 2007] NbW trial and test a Near Line of Site/Non-Line of Site product.
- NbW have recently trailed a Near-line of site/Non-line of site product with excellent results, the product has been tested where normal line of site products have failed to provided a link due to either clutter or failed line of site, and the trial provided some excellent results.
Due to this trial NbW are now providing 5 weeks of surveys for a customer in the south of the UK who has over 100 sites they have been unable to connect via normal line of site products, and are to cost prohibitive through a fibred alternative method. The results to the surveys so far have produce an impressive 82% success rate on the near line/non-line of site connections.
- [October 2007] NbW trial new Gigabit Link.
- Nbw are currently trialling a new Gigabit product which has been designed to produce a low cost alternative against fibre over a maximum of 5km.
The two trial sites to date have proven the product does provide a throughput of 1 Gigabit over the distance stated, and feedback from the trials has been extremely positive.
The new product will allow NbW to improve it's offering when looking at short distance high bandwidth solutions.
- [September 2007] NbW open new office in Chelmsford.
- NbW’s continuing success in the South of the UK has lead them to opening a new operational base in Chelmsford.
Chris Palmer, NbW Director of Sales commented
"The Chelmsford office has been opened due to the ongoing success of NbW, and gives NbW a greater presence in the south of the UK. This allows NbW to improve our service and further our commitment to all of the customers we have within that area" he added "It also allows NbW to grow their UK footprint and national coverage, not only for our maintenance team but also our national spares holding, which further strengths NbW's ongoing commitment to all of our valued customers and partners moving forward".
- [January 2007] Worst storms for 17 years prove stability of Wireless.
- On the 18th January 2007, the UK was battered by wind and driving rain, measured gusts of between 100 and 180Km per hour were common across all regions, 12 people died, 100’s of vehicles were blown over, 1,000’s of trees were uprooted, 18 areas suffered severe flooding and 10’s of thousands of locations were left without power.
Amidst all of this mayhem, the wireless communications networks of NbW continued to operate throughout, NbW has over 3,000 antenna installations under maintenance contract, by their very nature, they are located at the most exposed areas of buildings and towers.
With the exception of sites that did not have UPS cover, our NOC received only two reported incidents of network failure, engineering teams were dispatched and the networks were returned to service within the guaranteed SLA terms.
Mark Mansell, NbW Director of Engineering commented
“With the extreme weather conditions that affected all aspects of UK life, the fact that NbW installations and service was insignificantly affected, is a testament to the robustness and effectiveness of wireless systems” he added “In fact, some of our customers who have a mix of technologies, have already commented, that the loss of service from their wired circuit providers has been significantly higher, in part due to power failure, but also due to flooding of
cables underground”.
- [December 2006] First Base Station build for On-Communications.
- NbW announced today it had completed its first contracted build for the On-Communications network in Manchester.
The Base Stations and connections to national carrier Global Crossing were completed on-time and to budget, with live user connections being facilitated within 7 days of the completed process.
George Webb, NbW Director of Projects commented
“After making announcements in November on our contractual agreement with On-Communications, this build was extremely high profile within both organisations. It demonstrates the ability of NbW to complete projects with the key drivers of Time, Cost and Quality being met, even under the tightest of scrutiny”.
- [November 2006] NbW announces strategic investment process.
- As set out in our October 2005 strategy, we agreed that in 12 months time, we would commence a process to investigate the possibilities of a guaranteed strategic partner who can accelerate the growth, strength and depth of the business, thus enhancing value for all our Customers, employees and shareholders.
As part of the strategy, set by the Executive Board and shareholders, an Operational Board was created from within the existing proven management team earlier this year, indeed, it is envisaged that this team will take a significant stake in the business going forward.
With this in mind, we have already started the consultation work required to progress this, and aim to reach a conclusion over the next six month timeframe.
Both Richard Standley and Keith Bartlett have resigned as employee’s in their day to day management roles, but remain as shareholders, in order to facilitate the process and allow a wider
choice of investment options to any potential investor.
Both Richard and Keith will continue to provide support to the business and this process for the immediate future.
Neil Metcalfe is appointed Managing Director, with immediate effect. Neil has been with NbW as Commercial Director since the original investment and provides the continuity between the existing shareholders and any potential new investor.
Whilst the future of the company is extremely encouraging and we, as a board, believe the time is right to implement this plan. We are also cognisant of the fact that our Customers and Suppliers need to be informed of this important milestone in the development of NbW and its on-going commitment to provide exceptional service and value for money.
- [November 2006] NbW announces contract with On-Communications.
